Operation Steel Lion Relief
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene struck Florida’s Gulf Coast as a devastating Category 4 storm, bringing sustained winds of 140 mph. As it moved inland, the storm caused widespread havoc across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The destruction was immense—entire communities were leveled, infrastructure was crippled, and thousands were left without homes. Tragically, the hurricane claimed 249 lives across seven states, with North Carolina experiencing the greatest losses, suffering 106 fatalities and billions of dollars in damages. The immediate aftermath called for swift humanitarian action to assist the countless displaced families in need.
In response to this crisis, Operation Steel Lion Relief emerged. A logistics operation delivering aid to the hardest-hit regions in North Carolina. This initiative was spearheaded by a coalition of dedicated business leaders, Jim Neebling of Princeton Logistics, Eric Timmerman, and Kenneth Mintz of Steel Lion. Their leadership transformed a simple request for assistance into a large-scale relief effort that mobilized resources, volunteers, and organizations to deliver emergency supplies to those most affected.

Jim Neebling executed the operation from his warehouse in Bound Brook, NJ; he coordinated the collection, categorization, and shipment of donated goods. He partnered with Steel Lion, which ensured that every truckload was efficiently packed and dispatched. Their strategic oversight streamlined the supply chain and ensured aid reached impacted communities as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, on-the-ground volunteers in North Carolina worked tirelessly to distribute the supplies to families struggling to rebuild their lives in the storm’s wake.

Kenneth Mintz and Eric Timmerman of Steel Lion provided critical leadership in overcoming the logistical challenges of delivering aid to disaster-stricken areas. Widespread flooding and damaged roadways, such as the closure of major highways and the destruction of bridges, complicated transportation efforts, but their expertise in strategic operations enabled the team to navigate these obstacles. Through collaboration with local organizations, they identified viable delivery routes to ensure relief supplies reached communities in need. Their experience and commitment to the mission played a crucial role in the operation’s success.
Results
Thanks to the collective efforts of Jim, Eric, Kenneth, and an extensive network of volunteers and donors, Operation Steel Lion Relief delivered 12 truckloads of essential supplies to the hurricane-affected areas. These shipments included bottled water, non-perishable food, clothing, diapers, hygiene products, and medical supplies—critical resources for families without basic necessities after the storm.
Beyond the aid provided, Operation Steel Lion Relief symbolized the strength of collective action in the face of adversity. The initiative exemplified how individuals and organizations can come together in times of crisis to make a meaningful impact on those in need.
Although the immediate emergency has passed, the process of rebuilding continues for many communities. Operation Steel Lion Relief stands as a testament to the power of coordinated humanitarian efforts. The dedication and selflessness of Jim, Eric, Kenneth, and the countless volunteers and donors involved serve as an enduring reminder that in times of disaster, collective action can bring hope, relief, and recovery to those most in need.
